The 1 October marks the 55th Anniversary of the opening of the Tōkaidō Shinkansen, the first Japanese ‘bullet train’ service. It ran between Tokyo and Osaka, reducing the journey time between the two cities from 6 hours and 40 minutes to
4 hours.
